General Medicine / Osteoporosis / Falls

The integrated assessment of many medical, functional and psychosocial issues is the primary concern of a Geriatric Assessment. One major area of concern often needing assistance is the presence of falls and the prevention/treatment of Osteoporosis.

In addition to usual treatments (calcium, vitamin D & bisphosphonates), new treatment options, involving infusions, have been initiated at Kawartha Regional Memory Clinic. Intravenous treatments for Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis are available and are particularly suited to the patient population with dementia, swallowing problems and esophagitis.
